Centre Court Information

Capacity: 15,000 - only 2500 Debenture tickets

Key features of Debenture Tickets: Same level as Royal box; Retractable roof guaranteeing play, exclusive access to Centre Court member’s bars and restaurants. All Wimbledon Centre Court debenture seats are guaranteed in pairs, please call for other groupings. Debenture seats are located in the green area of the seating plan.

Centre Court is so called as it was the central court on the original site of the All England Lawn Tennis Club on Worple Road. The name was retained when the AELTC moved to its new and still current site of Church Road in 1922.

Since it opened in 1922 the capacity has been significantly increased by raising the roof by one metre in 1979, by further more substantial works in 1992 and most recently by adding six rows of seats to the upper tier on the east, north and west sides, giving a current capacity of 15,000.

At the south end is the Royal Box which has played host to many members of the Royal family and dignitaries. In 2009 Wimbledon Centre Court was fitted with a retractable roof to prevent the play being stopped due to heavy rain or when it became too hot. The roof takes 10 minutes to open/close and play is suspended for a short time while this is done. It means spectators don’t need to worry about the match being called off due to the English weather and they can continue to watch the match without worry. The famous show court usually hosts finals and semi-finals involving the higher profile players.

Number One Court Seating Plan

Number One Court Information

Capacity: 11,000

Constructed: Built in 1997 Wimbledon debenture seats are situated towards the front of the elevated stand, circling around the court. All debenture seats, shown in green, are the same price for the day purchased.

The Number 1 Court is situated on the west side of Centre Court and also plays host to some of the higher profile players. During the Wimbledon Championships 2013 Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams and Andy Murray all competed here amongst others.

The AELTC’s first plans for No. 1 Court was as a hard surface. However, as it could not be completed in time for the 1922 tournament, which were the first Championships to be held at the new Church Road site, construction was delayed for two years and the original No.1 Court was later unveiled in 1924 with a grass surface.

The current show court was constructed in 1997 to replace the old one due to lack of space. It now holds a capacity for 11,000 spectators making it more intimate than Centre Court with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This complex offers a range of facilities such as the food village, Wimbledon shop, Wingfield restaurant and a range of hospitality suites. Wimbledon has also confirmed that a new retractable roof will be built for No. 1 Court; they intend to build it in time for The Championships 2019. The roof on Centre Court has been regarded as a huge success and a further cover on No.1 Court will allow play to continue should there be bad weather.
